Roydon Connell was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)
Roydon was born in 1885 in Brighton[1]. His parents were Thomas Minton Connell and Abigail Jan Larke. His mother died the same year as his birth.
He wrote a letter to to "Cinderella" in The Leader in 1895; his football had been broken[2].
He was studying first year medicine in 1907 at the University of Melbourne, where he passed his supplementary exam[3].
He has two marriages recorded with Dorothea Morison, one in 1908 and another in 1913[4][5]. It isn't clear from the entries in the Victorian registry database why there are two marriages. The 1913 marriage was recorded in the Leader[6].
He remarried after Dorothea’s death in 1926.
Movement around Australia
As a doctor he appears to have moved around Australia very frequently, including:
Wilmington, South Australia (1923)[12]; the article notes that the local residents were trying to put together a fund to ensure Roydon settled in the district (obviously unsuccessful)
Leonora, Western Australia (prior to April 1926)[13]
Meekatharra, Western Australia (1926)[13]. After leaving Meekatharra in 1928 it appears that there were rumours that he had stolen hospital equipment. He refuted these claims in a letter to the editor[14].
Morgan, South Australia (1938)[21]. Despite planning to "take over the practice", he had left within two weeks to take up an appointment in Tasmania[22].
Penguin, Tasmania (1938)[23]. While in Penguin, there was a complaint made that he was unavailable from the 23rd until the 27th of December 1940[24][25].
Meekatharra (1949)[28]. He left Meekatharra (without any doctors) later that year [29].
Karoonda, South Australia (1949); he had a car accident on the way to the hospital but he survived with minor injuries; his wife and daughter were shaken but unharmed[30][31]
Dr Minton Connell moved about Australia very frequently, and appears to have stayed in most places for quite a limited time (see the Morgan entry above).
