Biography

The daughter of John Thomas Conquest (1886-1942) and Maude B. Hoff (1885-1933), Mabelle was born in Flint in 1912. Her siblings included:

In 1920, her father worked as a butcher at a meat market; there were eight children at home.^[1] Her parents divorced in 1928 and remarried in 1929, marrying Frank Adolph Rahde, with whom she had one daughter, Mabelle's half-sister, Peggy Ann Rahde (1931-1932).

In 1930, her father and his five youngest children, including Mabelle, lived in Flint while her father worked for a driver at a dairy. Her father's sister, Lucy Eagan, age 40, lived in the household, and they took in a boarder.^[2] In 1940, still living in Flint, Mabelle, age 28, took care of the house and twin boys while her father worked as a milkman for the dairy. Her brother, Horace, age 24, worked as an auto worker for a spark plug company and her sister, Mildred, age 18, worked as a sales lady at a dime store. ^[3]

Mabelle married William T. Davis (1912-1944), the son of Arthur James Davis and Nancy Jane Leist, marrying in Bancroft, in Shiawassee County, Michigan on June 16, 1942.^[4] She and her husband, a soldier in the United States Army, moved to Marion County, Indiana, near Fort Benjamin Harrison (now closed, as part of the base realignment of 1991). He died as the result of an accident that crushed his sternum and lacerated his heart. He was 31, and they had been stationed in Indiana only two years. Mabelle returned to Michigan, where she remarried, marrying John Wilson IV. They married in Flint, Michigan on July 24, 1948.^[5]

She passed away in Flint at the age of 90^[6] and is buried at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Clio, Michigan.^[7][8]
