Amelia Cook married 29 August 1838 in Madison County, Alabama to James Carpenter.[1][2]
There were three Cook heads-of-house in the 1830 census:
George Cook ... Range 5, Madison, Alabama, p. 157[3]
Josiah Cook ... Ranges 3 and 4, Madison, Alabama, p. 121[4]
Valentine Cook ... Ranges 1 and 2, Madison, Alabama, p. 72[5]
Amelia's father-in-law lived in the same area as George Cook. Possibly George was a relative. Josiah was the only Cook with a daughter in the right age group for Amelia. [Research needed.]
Willis Carpenter ... Range 5, Madison, Alabama, p. 153[6]
More about Josiah Cook:
"Joel Henerson Glover...married (1) ELIZABETH COOK August 21, 1832 in Huntsville, Madison, Alabama, daughter of JOSIAH COOK and ELIZABETH ???. formerly of Elbert Co. GA and the grand-daughter of Francis Cook (who died in Elbert County, GA in bet. 1804 - 1813). His will was probated March 1, 1813. Josiah Cook's will was filed Nov. 12, 1833. In his will he names his wife, Elizabeth, Joel Glover, Effie Cook who married Samuel Howell, Pleasant Cook, Samuel Cook, Elijah Cook, Joel Cook, and Pamela Cook, an infant..."[7]
"In 1838 Elizabeth Cook (mother-in-law) deeded to Joel Glover land in Madison County, AL. In 1839, Elizabeth (wife) and Joel Glover sold this land to James Carpenter and also sold another tract of land to Jonathan Glover. About 1842, Joel and Elizabeth Cook Glover moved to Lamar Co. TX...There are some indications that the Cook's (brothers and sisters of Elizabeth) may have moved with them...The families moved about 1842 from Alabama, to Missouri/Arkansas, then to Texas..."[8]
Amelia isn't listed as a child of Josiah, but note that Josiah's widow sold land to James Carpenter, likely the husband of Amelia Cook and also note some of the Cooks took the same route as the Carpenters to MO/AR/TX.

James Madison Carpenter, Sr. married Amelia Cook. Their son, James Madison Carpenter, Jr. married Margaret Evelyn Cook, the daughter of Elijah Edward and Elizabeth (Hamner) Cook. According to family tradition, Amelia and Margaret were related, but the relationship isn't known at this time. More research needed.
