Biography

Mary Cook was born about 1810 in Letheringsett, Norfolk, England.^[1][2][3][4]

Mary Cook married John Fox on 30 August 1829 at Letheringsett. ^[5]

She was living in Letheringsett in 1841 with her husband and five children.^[6]

They moved to nearby Glandford in about 1851, where she was living with her husband and seven children.^[1]

They soon moved back to Letheringsett, where she was living with her family, including two additional children in 1861.^[2]

They remained in Letheringsett in 1871, where she was living with her husband and two children.^[3]

By 1881, after the death of her husband, she was living in Letheringsett with her daughter Hannah and her family.^[4]

Mary died in 1889 and was buried at St Andrew, Letheringsett on 4 March.^[7]

Research notes

Mary Cook's marriage record states that she was of the parish of Letheringsett and this is stated as her place of birth in all the census records from 1851 to 1881. However, no christening record has been found for her.

The parish records of Letheringsett at this time record only one family with the surname Cook - William Cook and Sarah Mortram. They were married in 1808 and had a number of children christened there from 1809 to 1823. TThsi has been attached to this person as the most likely parents.

There are a few christening records for Mary Cook from neighbouring parishes (e.g. Field Dalling, three miles away) but none of the parents match William and Sarah.^[8]
