John was born in 1790. It seems likely he was born near Stirling in Scotland and he was living there prior to 1810. There is nothing currently known of him.
He married Janet Jenkins, 31 Oct 1812, at St. Ninians Church in Stirling, Scotland.[1]
They have nine children:
Margery Cook; b. 1814, Stirlingshire.
William Cook; b. 1817, Stirlingshire. Living with parents Dunbartonshire, 1851 and 1861 Census.
Charles Cook; b. 1819, Stirlingshire.
Janet Cook; b. 1822, Stirlingshire.
Elizabeth Cook; b. 1824, Stirlingshire. Living with parents Dunbartonshire, 1851 Census but married that year.
John Cook; b. 1826, Stirlingshire. Living with parents Dunbartonshire, 1851 Census.

Margaret Cook; b. 1833.
In the 1851 Census he is recorded as living, with Janet, in Dunbartonshire although the place is not provided.[2] In this Census return he is stated as having been age 60 and born Stirlingshire. In the 1861 Census he is living at Kirkintilloch with his wife and two of the children; William and Agnes.[3]
