The Rev A de Vlieger was the husband of Catherine Cecilia Coote, daughter of Rev Sir Algernon Coote (1817-1899). He researched the Coote family and produced a "Historical and Genealogical Record of the Coote Family" which is detailed and beautifully illustrated; it was published in 1900. It contains far more information than the Peerage and is used in conjunction as a valuable and reliable source of information about this family.

The peerage has no parents for Nicholas who was born about 1550 (estimate).[1] Vlieger's Record has Nicholas as the eldest of seven children born to Sir Richard Coote, Kt., who passed away in 1653. His mother was Elizabeth Felton.[2]
Marriage
According to Vlieger, Nicholas married twice; the marriage to Ann has no issue. The second marriage, to Eleanor Stanhope produced Sir Charles Coote, 1st Baronet
History
He lived at Blownorton, Norfolk, England.[3] "It is said that Sir Nicholas was a retainer of the Duke of Norfolk's, and that upon his cause happened to strike the Attorney=General, for which he was fined £20 000, and laid in prison for a long time, and at last was forced to sell his estates to pay the fine, with the consent of Sir Charles, his son."[4][5]
