Biography

Elizabeth Ann "Eliza Ann" Cordell (aka "Cordle") was born in June 1839 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, USA. Her parents were John Cordell / Cordle, b: 1810 in Virginia; d: 1880 in Georgia, and his wife, Angeline (Cox) Cordell, b: 1820 in North Carolina; d: 1904 in Georgia. They had married about 1833. Eliza Ann was their 6th child of a total of nine (6 girls, 3 boys). [1]

Eliza Cordell married Miller Snow, b: 1832, on Christmas Eve (24 December) 1860 in Surry County, North Carolina, USA. [2] The couple had a farm in Bryan Township, Surry County, North Carolina, where they had the following 7 children:

  1. Margret Matilda Snow, 1861–1936
  2. Christopher Columbus Snow, 1866–1949
  3. Thomas Gideon Snow, 1867–1947
  4. Sarah Plutina Snow, 1869–1913
  5. Nancy Snow, 1872–1940
  6. Shadrack Oliver Snow, 1873–1956
  7. Vicia Elizabeth Snow, 1877–1958

On the 1880 US Census, Eliza Snow was recorded as white, female, 39 years old, married to Miller W. Snow, 48 years old. The couple were living on their farm in Bryan Twp., Surry Co., North Carolina, with their youngest 6 children. Oldest daughter, Margaret Matilda Snow (b: 1861), had married cousin: Ephraim Snow on 2 March 1879 and left home.[3]

On 12 February 1892, at 52 years old, Eliza Ann (Cordell) Snow passed away on her farm in Bryan Township, Surry County, North Carolina, USA. She was buried at the Carpenter - Snow Family Cemetery, Dobson, Surry County, North Carolina, USA. [4]

Her husband survived her passing. He remarried to Mary Jane Williams, b: 1843; widow of Hardin Cockerham, on 28 Dec. 1896, in Surry County, N. C.. They had no children together. Miller Watson Snow passed away on 3 January 1906 in Surry County, North Carolina. He was buried next to his 1st wife, Eliza Ann Cordell, at the Carpenter-Snow Cemetery in Dobson, Surry, N.C., USA.[5]
