Joshua was born on 22 Jun 1726 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay.^[1] He was the son of Thomas Cornell and Katherine (Potter) Cornell of Dartmouth..^[1][2]

He married Susanna Gifford, daughter of Christopher and Mary Gifford of Dartmouth, on 15d 1m 1749/50 [15 Mar 1750].^[2]

He died on 20 Jul 1788 in Westport, Bristol, Massachusetts.
