Mervyn Miles Nelson Corner CBE MC JP
He was born in Auckland, New Zealand on the 5th July 1908; the son of Evelyn Rose and James Corner
Ira May Ardley and Mervyn Miles Nelson Corner were married Devonport, Auckland in 1938
He was a New Zealand rugby union halfback, a member of the All Blacks 1930-1936.
Merv served overseas during WWll, a second lieutenant in the New Zealand Infantry. He was awarded the Military Cross for gallant and distinguished services in the South Pacific. He was serving with a unit of the United States Army based in Fiji when he was awarded the Purple Heart for an injury received in action.
Merve Corner was General Manager of the Auckland Savings Bank 1968 - 1973.
Merv's many Community interests included the Eden Park Trust Board, the Totalisator Agency Board, the Auckland Trotting Club, The New Zealand Barbarians Rugby Football Club (1958-59) The Auckland Rugby Football Union (President 1959-1961), the Transport Improvement Committee, the Fishing Industry Board, The New Zealand Film Commission, th Museum of Transport and Technology, appointed Justice of the Peace in 1968.
1971 New Year's Honours; appointed an Officer of the British Empire; appointed a Commander of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours List of 1981.
In 1977, awarded the Queen Elizabeth ll Silver Jubilee Medal.
He died in Auckland on the 3rd February 1992
