Reginald was born on 20 October 1920 in Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. He was the son of Walter Ernest Corney and Nellie Beatrice (Bower) Corney.[1]

Reginald served in the military in September 1944. Petty Officer Reginald Osborne Corney (23) has received his commission in the Fleet Air Arm. Sub-Lieutenant Corney went overseas in July, 1943, and won his wings in Canada.
When Reginald was 24 he married Kathleen Florence Virgin on 30 July 1945 in Bristol, Bristol, England.[2]
