Gabriel Cotten married his first wife on Sept. 28, 1826, in Cooper County, MO. They had four children, Louisa Jane b. 1828, Mary Ann b. 1830, Benjamin Franklin b. 1932, and Sylvester J., b. 1834. Elizabeth died from childbirth on Oct. 19, 1834, giving birth to Sylvester. On Oct. 15, 1835, Gabriel then married Margaret Geier and had 12 more children. Margaret died in 1866, and Gabriel married Adele Neely a year later.
