Biography
The fifth child born to Thomas COURT and his wife Jessie Catherine (McLENNAN) COURT, Mary Louisa shares her name with her older sister, Mary Louisa Court (1881-1888), who died aged 5. Mary Louisa (2) was born in 1890, at Clarendon.[1]
She married John McLENNAN about 1910.
Sadly, Mary Louisa died a week after giving birth:
- DEATH of infant DAUGHTER - Lorna Mary MCLENNAN; Mother Mary Louisa COURT; Father John MCLENNAN. Born CLARENDON. Died CLARENDON. Age 2 Days. 1911.[2]
- BURIAL of daughter: Lenora Mary McLennan. BIRTH unknown. DEATH 10 Jul 1911, Aged 2 days. BURIAL Clarendon Cemetery, Clarendon, Moorabool Shire, Victoria, Australia.[3]
Mary died eight days after her infant daughter.[4]
The funeral of Mrs Jack McLennan (nee Court), took place on Saturday. Her remains were interned in the Clarendon Cometory, the funeral being very largely attended. Service at grave was conducted by Mr James M’Kendrick.[5]
She appears to be the "Mary L." on the McLENNAN family gravestone at Clarendon Cemetery, Vic. She is a grand-daughter of Duncan and Flora.
GRAVESTONE inscription :
‘’In Loving Memory of DUNCAN McLENNAN, died 17th Nov 1984, aged 72. His beloved wife, FLORA, died 5th May 1905, aged 80. Their son JOHN Died 20th Dec. 1881, aged 26. Their daughter-in-law, CATHERINE, Died 20th Dec 1896, aged 32. MARY L. McLENNAN, died 18th July 1911.’’[6]
Research Notes
I have not found the marriage registration of Mary Louisa and her husband John McLENNAN. He is most likely her first cousin, John McLennan (abt.1884-1940).
