Charles Cowan DSO, RN was born in Warwickshire, England.

The son of Captain W. F. Cowan. (possibly)

He enlisted in the Royal Navy, Date of Appointment: 15 January 1899

Cowan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1905.[1]

Cowan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1913.

Cowan was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1916.

Post-War

Captain of H.M.S. Osborne, 3 May, 1921 – 20 May, 1921.

Cowan was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 22 August, 1922.

Cowan was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 17 September, 1928. World War II

Mobilised 26 September, 1938.

Research Notes

It seems unlikely that he is the son of Walter Frederick Cowan. His name is not mentioned at all in any records associated with Walter Frederick Cowan. The fact that he and Walter Frederick Cowan were both born in Warwickshire seems to be a coincidence.
