Biography
Matross Benjamin Cowl served with New York Militia during the American Revolution.
Benjamin Cowl is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A024111.
Benjamin Cowl was born 11 March 1763. Family lore has that Benjamin lied about his age to fight in the Revolutionary War. He passed away 31 Dec 1851. He is buried in the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Putnam County, New York, United States.
On August 18, 1947, an oil portrait of Benjamin Cowl created by artist Linn Ball was given to Allison Dodd. The painting now hangs in the home of Stephen Cowl Dodd.
Service Description: Private and Matross in Captain Livingston's Company, Colonel Weisenphelts Regiment, 1782 and Captain Andrew Moodys company, Colonel John Lamb's Regiment of Artillery at West Point.
