- He enlisted in Company C (Captain Poe's), 1st Regiment Infantry Reserves in May 1864 and was discharged in May 1865. His name does not appear on the rolls, but sworn statements from members of the company attest to the fact he was a member. He married Martha Croft on 4 Mar 1876, in Jackson County, Florida. Her widow's pension application indicates Joe's death as 29 Jul 1896.[CONFEDERATE PENSION # A00632]
