Mary's year of birth and location are taken from census records. Her father is named on her marriage certificate.
On 9 May 1853 Mary married Abner Howes in Bristol. Abner was a Furrier, like his father, also Abner. Mary's father William was a labourer. Abner and Mary were noted to be living in the same house. [1]
By 1881 Mary was widowed and living with sons James and Alfred in Bitton. Her occupation was 'Looking for a Husband' (Brilliant!). Son James had been born in Australia and Alfred in South Gloucestershire. [2]
