Amelia was born in the Cotswold village of Asthall, Oxfordshire, in December 1787, the daughter of John Coxhead and Frances née Harris, [1]both from Oxfordshire.
On Thursday, 24 September 1806, aged 19, Amelia married William Talmage, who at 39 had already been widowed twice and had three children from each of his previous wives. They married in Ealing, Middlesex. [3]
Amelia and William subsequently had twelve children: Amelia (1806- ), James (1808- ), Ann (1809- ), Frances (1811- ), Richard (1812-1816), Alfred (1814-1900), Charlotte (1816-1866), Harriet (1818-1897), Henry (1821- ), Caroline (1823- ), Immanuel (1827?- )* and Noah (1832-1907).
William died some time in the summer of 1843, and Amelia went to London to live with her daughter Charlotte, son-in-law William Swatton and grandson William, above the Ben Jonson public house on Stepney Old Road, Mile End, in the East End of London.
