↑ Resolutions of the Council of Policy of the Cape of Good Hope, ref: C180, pp.112-161. In 1788 Louis Kotze wrote a letter of complaint to the Council of Policy asking for an investigation into his neighbor's infringement on his property. According to this letter he was awarded the loan farm Bergvliet in 1778 by Governor Joachim van Plettenberg. The letter also state that, in 1780, he and his surrounding neigbours had to flee their farms during the border war with the Xhosas. One of his sons and 4 Hottentots (slaves?) were killed and 196 cattle and 2 horses were taken. Bruintjies Hoogte is situated between the current day towns of Pearston and Somerset East in the Eastern Cape. Added by Scott Kotzé on 28 May 2020.
