Biography

Isaac Crabtree was listed on the 1790 Census for Greenville District, SC. Oral histories state that William Crabtree may have been his son. William originally lived in South Carolina. He then moved to White County, TN, and then to Crow Creek, Franklin County, TN (the 12th district in Franklin County is called Crow Creek). In the Court Minute Book 1814-1817, page 403, Tabitha Crabtree with William Crabtree and Joseph Connor (Crownover?) are appointed administrators of the estate of Isaac Crabtree, deceased 1816. William may have been Isaac's brother. Joseph Crownover is thought to be married to a sister of William Crabtree. In the Crownover family records, it is stated that two Crownovers married Crabtree women: Theodore and Joseph Jr. William received a hunting permit in 1802 and paid taxes in Wilson County in 1804. William lived in White County, TN for a number of years (Census records support that William and his family were living in White County during 1807-1808). William was living there when his son Mack was born in 1812. He and his family lived in White County until 1819 and then moved to Franklin County and settled in the Crow Creek Valley area. This region is in the eastern part of the county. The Crownovers and Crabtrees lived next door to each other in Franklin County, TN (they seemed to have traveled together from South Carolina). On 6/10/1796, Thomas Kilgore sold to William Crabtree 320 acres of land for $300 according to the Robertson County, TN Deed Book A. The property extended between the Red River and Sulpher Fork, beginning at Hickory and Black Oak in the state of North Carolina.
