Thomas was born 24 July 1824. He became a US Citizen 9 June, 1847 and passed away 30 May 1879.
John Crampton (Crampton-662) was born in 1798 and passed between the conception of the his daughter Elizabeth Crampton and his wife Frances Mawson Crampton (Mawson-362) immigrating to America on: Ship Baltimore from Liverpool 28 May 1833 with the following family members: Samuel Crampton [John Crampton's Brother (Crampton-716) , Uncle to:] Thomas Crampton (Crampton-660) Sarah Crampton (Crampton-711) Mary Ann Crampton (Crampton-712) Elizabeth Crampton (Crampton-713)
As it was told to me as a child by my grandmother Lottie Rachael (Crampton) Murphy her Grandfather, "Thomas was born on the wrong side of the blanket". Comparing Marriage cert date of 5 July 1824 to Birth date of Thomas as 24 July 1824 proves that story to be inaccurate (Caveat: His Christening date of 19 Sep 1824 could possibly been confused with his birth date).
My Grandmother Lottie also told me another story about Thomas, being quite memorable for a pre-teen, that his wife Adeline said that "He was a mean old SOB, so she allegedly poured hot lead in his ear while he was sleeping". That story was pretty far fetched even for a kid to swallow. However, that story could have had some credence, when the other story comes to light. Thomas Crampton was a Mason, as well as his Grandson Charles Henry Crampton (my beloved Great Uncle Charlie). When the family was later living in the Cleveland area, the local Masonic Temple was supposed to have erected a Plaque in their entry dedicated to Thomas and Charlie as both being Masons in the local Temple. The Temple decided to removed the Plaque when the story about Thomas being a Butcher when he lived in Oswego, N.Y., chased a customer down Water Street swinging a Butcher knife at a customer.
