Biography

Lewis was born in about 1889 in Big Rapids, Mecosta, Michigan, United States. He was the son of Emory Joseph Crandall and Alice Jane (Dooley) Adams.[1]

In 1913 Lewis (age about 24) was employed. Teamster.[1]

In 1913 Lewis (age about 24) was living in Iron River, Iron, Michigan, United States.[1]

When Lewis was 24 he married Hazel L. Plouffe on 7 October 1913 in Menominee, Menominee, Michigan, United States. Note: Justice of the Peace marriage.[2]

In 1917 Lewis (age about 28) was living in Michigan, United States.[3]

Obituary: in Besides his wife, the former Hazel Plouff of Florence, Wis., whom he married in 1913, he is survived by one daughter Mrs. Wallace (June) Erickson of Iron River; two sons, Emery of Iron River and Ray of Iron Mountain; one brother Clair of Crystal Falls; one sister Mrs. Eva Lawrence of Schoolcraft; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A son Chester preceded him in death in 1960. He worked underground in several mines and for the Peninsula Power Company for five years. He was employed by the Houghton contracting firm of Davis & Moss in the construction of the MIners State Bank and the surface structure at the Homer Mine, and on the construction of the Iron River City Hall in 1914. Mr. Crandall first entered business in Iron River in partnership with the late James Hunt in 1919, retiring in 1954 after 34 years in business on Genesee Street.

Obituary: in Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. for Lewis G. Crandall, age 79, of 127 Genesee St., retired Iron River businessman, who died Friday evening, April 26, at Crystal Falls Municipal Hospital after a brief illness. L. Crandall Passes Away, Rites Held

Obituary: in Mr. Crandall was born Oct. 15, 1888 in Big Rapids, Michigan [sic] and moved to Colorado in 1907, where he was employed for four years at a United States Army Fort. He moved to the Upper Peninsula and settled in Iron River in 1911. Rev. John Grenfell, pastor of the Wesley Union Methodist Church, officiated at the services at the Fell Funeral Chapel. William Harris sang "Jesus Whispers Peace" and "God Understands," accompanied by Mrs. Elmer Anderson, organist. Pallbearers were Donald McRae, George S. Moyle, William Richards, Andrew Johnson, Sylvester Nocerini and Norbert Mroz. Interment followed in the family lot in Resthaven Cemetery.
