Biography

Nancy was married to my brother, Gary Hardt Chappell. I was in the wedding but can't recall exactly when it was. Both my brother and Nancy died around the same time--my brother first. Nancy had Alzheimer's. They had two children. The first was Christopher, who married into a family that became disengaged from the Chappells for some unknown reason. When that son died with two young children, the wife's family did not want my brother and Nancy to attend the funeral. I came down to Florida to accompany them and we sat toward the back of the church. One of the grandchildren noticed us as they were exiting the church. We all waited in our cars to drive across the street for the burial service. Eventually, someone came to our car to ask us not to attend the burial, so we went back to our motel room and visited the site later. Their second son was born with Phenylkenotonuria which they were only just learning how to treat in those days. I recall that he had a very restricted diet. His name is Gregory and he married a woman (Moya) who also was born with the same problem. They are living in their own house and managing as best they can since Gary and Nancy's death.
