George was born in 1819 in Scotland. He migrated to Ontario, Canada with his parents and siblings in 1833. He was the son of James Crinklaw and Janet Smith. George Crinklaw had two wives, Isabella McDougall and Margaret Long, and a large family. He and Isabella Crinklaw moved about 1858 to Riley, McHenry County, Illinois where they bought a farm and by 1860 to Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois by 1860. They had the children, James Smith Crinklaw, born 1846; Angus; Charles; Margaret; Alice Crinklaw (aka Downs); Janet; Isabel; Mary, born 1861. George and Margaret had son, George W. (perhaps Walter) Crinklaw. After James Crinklaw, his father's death in 1864, George Crinklaw returned briefly to Westminster Township, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada to assist his mother, Janet, in the sale of his father's farm. George Crinklaw was a farmer and owner of a meat market on State Street in Belvedere, Boone County, Illinois. George Crinklaw passed away in 1868 from tuberculosis, as had his first wife, Isabella in 1863, leaving a number of children and adolescents.
