Biography

Charlotte Matilda Crossfield was born in 1856 in London, England to Joseph Crossfield and Ann Matilda (Humphreys) Crossfield. Her birth was registered in Shoreditch, London in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Humphreys.^[1]

In 1871 Charlotte M Crossfield (age 14, Scholar) lived in Camberwell, Surrey in the household of her uncle James Crossfield (31) - also living there were her aunt-by-marriage Matilda Crossfield (28), uncle Thomas Crossfield (24), sister Ann L Crossfield (16), cousin Thomas S K Crossfield (1), and servant Phoebe Pitt (18).^[2] Charlotte's parents and other siblings lived in Stratford Bow St Mary, Middlesex.

In 1881 Charlotte Crossfield (age 24) lived at Eglinton Road in Bow aka St Mary Stratford-Le-Bow, London with her mother Anne (51, Travellers Wife) and three siblings: James (20, Cheesemongers Assistant), Alice (17, Milliner Assistant), and Henry (14, Scholar), as well as cousin George Sanford (20, Woollen Draper Assistant).^[3]

Charlotte Matilda Crossfield married George Birch in 1884. The marriage was registered in Poplar, London in the last quarter of the year.^[4]

Charlotte and George had four children:

In 1891 Charlotte Matilda Birch (age 32) lived in Doncaster, Yorkshire with her husband George (30, Clothier & Outfitter) and three children: Annie Gertrude (5), Reginald Ernest (3), and Alfred Percy (0), as well as brother-in-law John Birch (17, Clothers Assistant) and servant Jessie Morland (18, Domestic Servant).^[5]

Charlotte Birch passed away in 1892, aged 34 years. Her death was registered in Doncaster in the last quarter of the year.^[6]
