Thomas S. Crotts was born in 1870 in Illinois;[1] he was the son of Thomas Crotts and Melinda Martin.[1]

- birth year - it is unclear the date of Thomas' birth, and the extant primary sources differ on the year of his birth. However, his headstone is inscribed with the birth year of 1870,[8] which is what I have listed in his profile. Hiestand-529 22:31, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- 1900 census - in the 1900 federal census,[5] a Thomas S. Crotts (age 25, single, born Illinois) was enumerated as a boarder in the household of Lula Ritter. All things considered, this is likely the Thomas S. Crotts of this WikiTree profile. Hiestand-529 22:24, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
