James was born in September 1879 in or about Wagge Wagga in the Colony of New South Wales in what would soon become Australia. And his birth was registered in Gundagai. [1] He was the son of William Crowe and his wife Theresa (nee Quilter).
Private James Augustine Crowe, listed as a Linesman living at Rozelle, New South Wales, enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on the 4th of September 1916. His Next of Kin was listed as his mother, Mrs Theresa Mary Crowe of 'Glencoe', Forbes, New South Wales. He was assigned to the 58th Battalion, 7th Reinforcements and this unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A19 Afric on the 3rd of November 1916. He served with the 58th Battalion until he was unfortunately Killed in Action on the 24th of September 1917 at the age of 34.https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au/lifelink/familyhistory/search?1
