Biography

William T. was born about 1851 in Massachusetts, the son of Nathan and Adeline Crowell.

In 1860, the Crowell family lived in Boston. The household included Nathan Crowell, 44, a shipping merchant with $16k in real estate and $10k in personal estate; his wife Adeline H., 41; their six children, Addie H., 16; Ellen M., 13; George, 11; William T., 9; Lizzie O., 7; and Charles F., 3. All the children were in school except for the youngest, Charles. All members of the Crowell family were born in Massachusetts. Also living with them were two female domestic servants, both born in Ireland. [1]

In 1865, they lived in Boston. The household included Nathan, 46, a merchant; His wife Adeline, 46; their five children, Addie H., 21; Ellen M., 18; George H., 16; William T., 14; Lizzie O., 12; Charles F., 8. All were born in Massachusetts. Also living with them was Olive Howes, 60, b. MA; two servants and a seamstress. [2]

In 1870, the Crowell family lived in Boston. The household included Nathan Crowell, 50, a shipping merchant with $25k in real estate and $100 k in personal estate; his wife Adeline H., 48; their four children, Adeline, 24; George, 21, a clerk in the shop; William T., 19, a clerk in the shop; and Charles, 13 in school; all of the Crowell family members were born in Massachusetts. Also living with them were Catherine Groom, 20, b. MA; and Bridget Powers, 24, a servant, b. Halifax. [3]

In 1880, the Crowell family lived at 51. West (?) Chester Square, Boston. The household included Nathan, 63, a shipping merchant, b. Massachusetts, as were his parents; his wife Adeline, 62, b. MA, as were her parents; their three children, all b. MA, George, 28, a leather clerk; William, 26, a brush dealer; and Charles, 22, a shipping clerk; and two servants. Living next door was [possibly a relative of Adeline (Howes) Crowell] Fred Howes, 68, a master mariner, b. MA, as were his parents, and his family. One of his daughters, Cora was an architect. [4]
