John Rustat Crowfoot was born on 21 February 1817 son of William Henchman Crowfoot, surgeon and his wife, Mary Bowles [1] [2] and was baptised at Beccles on the 23rd. [3] He was educated at Eton , Trinity College and Caius College, Cambridge, graduating BA 12th Wrangler in 1839. [4][1]
He married Elizabeth Tufnell, daughter of the Reverend John Charles Fowell Tufnell on 27 August 1850. [2] Their only child, Charles Rustat Crowfoot died in 1870 aged 18. [4][2]
In 1854 he accepted the living at Southwold in Suffolk.[4]
A Hebrew scholar of some distinction in 1873 he made an expedition to Egypt in search of Syraic manuscripts of the Gospels. [4][5]
John died 17 March 1875 [2] and was buried at Reydon. [1]
