Biography

Mary Caldonia Cummings was born on 16 June 1851 in Tennessee.^[1] She lived in Lawrence County with her parents, John and Sarah.^[2]

She married John Bevers on 10 Nov 1870 in Giles, Tennessee.^{[3][4][5][6][7]} The 1880 census lists a 6-year-old son (Andrew V) born in Tennessee and a 1-year-old son (Robert L) born in Texas, suggesting the family moved to Texas between 1874 and 1879.^[8]

She appears to have remarried M. M. Kizer in Fannin County, Texas on 15 Apr 1896.^[9]

She passed away in 1920 in Lubbock, Texas. Her obituary, published in the Lubbock Avalanche on Thursday, June 3, 1920, read:

Mrs. Mary C. Kizer, age 69 years, born June 16, 1851 in Tennessee, a resident of Fannin county for many years, died May 28, 1920, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. A. Cathey, five miles northwest of the city. The deceased had been in failing health for some time and for that reason came to Lubbock county in March.

She is survived by her husband, M. M. Kizer, four sons, J. W. S. and G. C. Bevers of Lubbock, C. D. Bevers of Fannin county, and L. B. Bevers of Hunt county. Also by two daughters, Mrs. A. A. Cathey and Mrs. Minnie Anthony, both residents of Lubbock county.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city May 20th, conducted by Rev. T. W> Brabham. Interment followed immediately in the Lubbock Cemetery.^[1]
