Biography

Margaret was born about 1838 to James Stevenson Currie and his wife, Agnes (nee Young).

She had her first child on 20 May 1857^[1], the following month she married, the father, Thomas Stark^[2].

In April 1861 they can be seen with one child, Margaret,^[3]not Mary^[4] who had unfortunately died November the previous year.

Margaret went on to have James^[5], another Mary^[6], and Jeannie.^[7]

On Sunday, 2nd April when the 1871 census was taken Margaret would have been heavily pregnant with their sixth child, Thomas.^[8]

Sadly, the 1871 census only shows them with two children, Margaret, now 11, and Samuel^[9], 9^[10].

Margaret gave birth to two more children, Eliza^[11], and William^[12] prior to immigrating to New Zealand on board the Canterbury in 1878^[13].

The family of seven^[14] settled in Mataura, Southland. Margaret unfortunately died in 1890 at 52^[15] years old.

She was buried in Mataura Cemetery^[16] on 13 October, 1890, where her husband joined her 26 years later.
