Biography

Emily was born in 1846.[1] She was the 4th daughter of William Cuthbert of Beaufront Castle and his wife Mary.

Emily was baptised on 27 January 1847 at Lee Saint John, Northumberland, England.[2]

She lived with her parents and siblings at Beaufront Castle in Sandhoe, Northumberland, England.

She married Arthur Arbuthnot on 1 October 1868 in Hexham, Northumberland.[3]

They had the following children:

Charles (born Hanover Square, London, England 9 July 1869, died 1903)
Muriel (born 1871, died 1871. Buried with her mother in Brompton Cemetery)
Frederick (born England q4 1872, died unmarried 1900)
Henry (born and died 1873. Buried with his mother and sister Muriel in Brompton Cemetery)
Eric (born Pimlico, London q2 1874, died unmarried December 1922)
Evelyn Geraldine (born England 27 April 1876. Married q4 1898 Robert Oliver Harrild)
Madeleine Charley (born Pimlico, London q4 1877)
Marcia Hyacinth (born Pimlico, London 1877, died unmarried)
Violet Mary (born Woodford, Northamptonshire 1878. Fl.1920 Died unmarried 1949. Buried with her mother Brompton Cemetery)

UK Census Event Date 1871: Living with her husband, one year old son Charles and three servants in St George Hanover Square, London, Middlesex, England. Aged 24.

In 1881 she and her husband, seven children and five servants were recorded at Road From Ville Es Nuaux St, St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands. She was now 34 years of age. Her husband's occupation was recorded as Magistrate.

Her husband Arthur died on 12 October 1887 at the age of 44 in St Saviour, Jersey.

In 1891 Emily was recorded back in England, in the household of her married sister Annie Wilkinson-Green in St George Hanover Square, London. Aged 44 and widowed.

UK Census Event Date 1911: Recorded in St George Hanover Square, London, England. Aged 64 and widowed. Also in the household were her unmarried daughters Madeline, Marcia and Violet, and two servants.

Occupation: NONE INDEPENDENT

She died in 1930 at the age of 83.

Her Will was probated on 6 May 1930 at Newcastle upon Tyne, England, to Madeline Charley Arbuthnot, spinster and Evelyn Geraldine Harrild, widow. Effects £1,143, 17s. 9d.[4]
