Mary Elizabeth was born about 1834 in North Carolina.^[1] she passed away after 1870, probably in Cherokee County, North Carolina. She is last found in records on the 1870 census in Cherokee County.

Mary married Alfred Dale on 2 October 1851 in McDowell County, North Carolina.^[2] (Marriage bond posted on 20 September 1851 in McDowell County, North Carolina, bondsman, George R Dale.^[3])

In 1860 Alfred and Mary Deal (Dale) were living in Blount County, Tennessee. In the household were their children Martha M Deal, born 1854 in North Carolina, and William M Deal, born 1858 in Tennessee.^[4]
