William was born in 1945. He passed away in 1967.
William the son of William G. Dailey Sr. and Helen Dailey of Oak Park IL enlisted in the US Marine Corps on March 21, 1966. He was assigned for duty in Vietnam with Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
While OPCON to the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines on April 28 a patrol member detonated a M26A1 grenade which was rigged as a bobby trap in the hamlet of Tan My resulting in an explosion that wounded two men.
Evacuated to the Station Hospital NSA in DaNang, LCpl Dailey died as the result of multiple fragmentation the following day. ∼ Lance Corp. William G. Dailey Jr., 22, of 1181 Wisconsin Av., Oak Park, was wounded Sunday while fighting near Quang Nam while serving with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. He died Monday in a base hospital at Da Nang. Dailey, who attended St. Mel's High school, had been in the Marine Corps a year. He is survived by his parents, William Grant Sr and Helen Dailey, three sisters and a brother.
