Biography

Elizabeth Dainty was born in Staffordshire, England. Her first marriage was to a man surname Jones. She was widowed at a very early age, and on August 20, 1859, she remarried to Beriah Parton, son of Peter and Susannah Parton. [1]

Elizabeth and Beriah had four children, born in England and immigrated to New York City, in 1866, aboard the ship "Malta." [2]

Elizabeth and Beriah were the parents of eight children, six daughters and two sons, namely: Rebecca, Beriah, Jr. Jane, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary, John and Hannah. Three [actuall four, see notes] children were born in England, and the parents came to this country when their eldest daughter was a mere child, making the voyage by steamship, and they located in Maryland, near Baltimore, where Beriah operated as a coal miner for some length of time.

From there, the family came to Sharon, Pennsylvania and later to Bethel, where he bought land until he had quite a large farm and spent the remainder of his life there, a prominent farmer and a man highly respected by all who knew them.

Beriah was seventy-two years of age at the time of his death, dying in Bethel, Mercer county. Elizabeth survived him and was living in 1909 at which time her story was included in the biography of her son-in-law, James P. Clark.

Researcher's Notes

On the 5th of December, 1895, Rebecca Parton, who was born in England in 1858, married James P. Clark Clark-629 In the biography by her contemporary, John G. White, he states that three children were born in England and brought on the ship the "Malta," however the image of the ship's passengers clearly shows the parents names with four children. See image.

An Elizabeth Dainty, daughter of James Dainty, married John Jones in 1853 at Sedgley, Stafford, England. This is very possibly the first marriage of our Elizabeth. [3]

Elizabeth's Find A Grave gives her maiden name as Jones and uses Dainty as her middle name, which is incorrect. A message has been sent to the memorial manager. This note may be removed, after it has been corrected. jan gorman, March 23, 2017 Find A Grave Memorial# 64360727
