In 1844 he is living in Macclesfield when he married Ann Gibson on 23 June 1844 at St Peter's Church in Prestbury (a village just north of Macclesfield). His father's name is Joseph Gibson and he is a miner.
In 1851 his job is a Policeman, and he is living at 56 Grove Street, LIverpool with Ann and four children:
Ten years later, in 1861, he is now a Superintendent of Police, is married to Ann, living at 19 Luke Street, Toxteth and together have five children:
