Biography

Hector was born about 1821. He was the son of Hector Dallas and Ann McPherson. He passed away in 1904. Hector was a Shoemaker. Hector and his wife Mary were both convicted of felonies and transported to Australia, where they met. They asked many times for permission to marry, but this was denied. However they went on to have 7 children between 1846 and 1859, before their sentences had been served and they could then marry in 1861 and have 3 more children.

  • Newspaper Obituary Goulburn Herald Wed 15 Jun 1904 "MR. HECTOR DALLAS, aged eighty-three years, a resident of Goulburn for the past fifty-three years, died at his son's residence, Goldsmith-street, at nine o'clock this morning from general break-up of the system. He had been confined to his bed for nearly twelve months, during which time he suffered greatly. He was a boot closer by trade, but had been unable to work for some considerable time. Mr. Dallas was born in Woolwich, England, and was married about sixty years ago, his wife having been dead twenty-one years. He leaves five sons and two daughters, the latter being Mrs. R. Horan of Goulburn and Mrs. Smith of Forbes. The funeral will take place at three p.m. to-morrow." (Note he was actually married in 1861, so 43 years before death)
  • Newspaper Obituary Goulburn Evening Post Thur 16 Jun 1904 "Death of an Old Resident. Mr. Hector Dallas, a resident of Goulburn for the past 63 years, died on Wednesday morning at his son's residence in Goldsmith-street. Deceased had attained the age of 83 years, and he is survived by two daughters and five sons. Of these, three son-,viz, Frank, Hector, and Alexander, and one daughter, Mrs. Horan; reside in Goulburn; a son and a daughter are living at Forbes. The late Mr. Dallas had been a widower for 20 years."
