Find A Grave states: Trevanion Barlow Dallas was of Scotch descent. His great-grandfather was George Dallas, an eminent lawyer and author of Scotland. His grandfather was Robert Dallas, M.D., of Dallas Castle, Jamaica. His father, Alexander James Dallas, was born in Jamaica, and educated in England, admitted to the bar in Jamaica, but came to Philadelphia in 1783; he was an eminent American statesman and author, and honorably filled several high official stations, including Secretary of War of the United States. George Mifflin Dallas, Vice-President of the United States under President James K. Polk was his brother.
