Sir,—I see by this day's issue a notice of my insolvency : and deeming it probable that the public might to some extent be misled by the causes as therein stated, I beg leave to forward you for publication the true causes, which are as follow :—
- From having, about the year 1860, to pay the debts of the firm of Pearce and Dalziel, builders and general contractors, amounting to about £12,000 ; losses sustained on the con- tract for excavating and building the Patent Slip at Williamstown, about £10,000; and from deductions made by Board of Land and Works, amounting to £6,000, as penalties for non-completion of contract within specified time ; from losses sustained in consequence of Messrs. Filson and Dalziel having sued and recovered judgement against insolvent upon acceptances which had previously been paid, and from their having also materially injured insolvent's business, by placing bailiffs in possession of insolvent's hotel and pre- mises, upon a bill of sale which had previously been paid, and for which insolvent ultimately recovered only £400 damages ; and from Mr. Hugh Glass having recovered a verdict for the sum of £4,800, upon a mortgage.
