Biography

Victor Dana was born in France. He arrived in the U.S. in 1854 in New York City. He was a farmer in Maine. He served in the Union Army in the 30th Maine Infantry, Co. E and the; 25th Maine Infantry Co. D. When he enlisted and when he applied for American citizenship, he have his year of birth as 1821, but the rest of his documents show he was born in 1811. A birth record in France has not been found for either year. Like many people with the last name Dana, his name was sometimes spelled Denny.
