1785 Jul 27: David Danforth of Chelmsford, Mass., blacksmith, purchased land from Darius & Mary Abbot of Amherst. [Hillsborough Co., NH Deed 15:116]
1787 Spr 2: He bought land from Darius Abbot again, this time David was "of Amherst." [Hillsborough Co., NH Deed 18:134]

His home still stands at 107 Ponemah Road, Amherst, NH. It is a large colonial style with large center chimney with fireplace in each room. A long ell connects with large barn. The house was a tavern & stage stop. The stage went to Hollis, Milford Amherst & beyond. [Amherst House Locke File T-18; Amherst Town Library]
Amherst School District #5, south of the Souhegan River, was known as Danforth's Corner, after David Danforth, one of the principal inhabitants, who kept tavern, and carried on the blacksmithing business there. [Secomb 476]
