Orringh Stoddard
Orringh Stoddard was a Captain in the Revolution, and afterwards a General in the militia. [2][3]
"He served as 2nd Lt. in Col. John Patterson's Minute Men,[4] 4-22-1775 from Stockbridge, Massachusetts to Cambridge, Massachusetts. [5]
Orringh was Capt. in Col. Joseph Vose's Rgt. 1777-79. Capt. in 1st Mass. Rgt. Sept. 6, 1779 - Dec. 14, 1780. Subsequently, Gen. of Mass., Militia." [6][7]
On 26 June 1778, Orringh fought in the Battle of Monmouth, in Monmouth County, New Jersey. 11,000 withdrawing British troops under Sir Clinton, were delayed by 5,000 American troops under Gen. Lee, waiting for the main American force under Gen. Washington to arrive. He was thirty-six years old. [8]
