Biography

Alexander (Davidson) Gordon of Gight was born in Scotland.

Alexander Davidson was born in 1683 at St Nicholas, Aberdeen and was baptised on the 15th of June. He was the son of Alexander Davidson and Issobell Leslie.^[1]

Alexander Davidson, younger of Newtoun, married Marie Gordon, daughter and heiress of George Gordon, 9th Laird of Gight in 1701.

The couple had at least six children:

1. Elisabeth Davidson (baptised Aberdeen 15 April 1703)^[2]
2. George Davidson (baptised Fyvie 20 May 1704)^[3]
3. Alexander Davidson (baptised Fyvie 30 January 1707)^[4]
4. Jean Davidson (baptised Fyvie 1 June 1709)^[5]
5. Alexander David Davidson (baptised Fyvie 16 May 1711)^[6]
6. Alexander Gordon Davidson (baptised Fyvie 25 May 1716)^[7]

Alexander Davidson took the Gordon name and became Alexander Gordon, 10th Laird of Gight

Research Notes

• I have found a reference to Alexander being one of the Lairds of Newton in Midmar, Aberdeenshire. This helped with deciphering his marriage, Laird of Newtoun and "ygr of Newtoun", of which Newtoun, was difficult to read.
• Here is another son George, born 1704.^[8]
