After a brief illness Elizabeth Davis, widow of the late Alexander Smith, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Widdis, 9 Columbine Ave., Toronto, Tuesday Feb. 10th, in her 77th year.
Deceased was a daughter of the late Joseph Davis, and is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jennie Widdis, of Toronto, Mrs. J. S. Dods, Alton, Mrs. Charles Gibson, of Guelph, a son, J. W. Smith, of Toronto, fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren two sisters, Mrs. A. G. Patterson, of Alton, Mrs. Jean Reid, of Hillsburg, and two brothers, Dr. Charles Davis, of Hillsburgh and Joseph Davis, of Orangeville.
On Thursday, February 12th, a very impressive private service was conducted at her home in Toronto, by Rev. F. N. Bowes, after which the remains were taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. S. Dods, Alton, the vicinity in which Mrs. Smith had spent the greater part of her life.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. On Friday the funeral service was conducted by Rev. F. N. Bowes, assisted by Rev. W. M. Lee, of Alton. Interment took place in Alton Cemetery.
The pallbearers were: Messrs. Kenneth and Harold Widdis, R. C. Allen, Albert Smith, A. G. Patterson and J. Williamson.
The floral tributes included: Pillows, The Family, Grandchildren, wreaths, brothers and sister, The Metropolitan Office Staff and Lynn Sportswear; sprays, Stanley Davis, Mrs. L. Force, Eva and Leslie Chaffey, Dorothy and Howard Smith, Mr. and Mrs. W. Watt, Mr. and Mrs. H. Ferns, Mr. F. W. Rowan, Mrs. S. Noble and Mrs. C. Huggen, Mrs. Sinclair; Sheaf of lilies, Mrs. Ethel Davis and Brock; bouquet of roses, little Doreen Allen.
