Maria was baptized 11 Mar 1750 at Albany, Albany, New York, daughter of John David and Elizabeth Wyngaert, sponsors John and Maria Wyngaert, the maternal grandparents. The date is written 1749/50 according to the fashion of the day, when Christians wouldn't begin writing "1750" until Easter arrived.

Married by Banns in the Albany, Albany, New York Dutch Reformed Church, 3 Feb 1771, to Hendrick Lewis.

In 1790, she is listed as head of household, and therefore likely widowed, in Albany, living next to her father.

1. John, born 6 Dec 1771 and baptized 8 Dec 1771 at Albany, sponsors uncle Daniel and Annatje Davids.

2. Elisabeth, born 22 Sep 1774 and baptized 26 Sep 1774 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Albany, with John & Elisabeth David/Davies, the maternal grandparents, as sponsors.

3. Elisabeth, born 9 May 1776, baptized May 12, same church, same sponsors.

4. Elisabeth baptized 8 Feb 1778 at Schenectady, sponsors Charles Persons and Maria Morrison.

Note: Some confusion regarding the third Elisabeth. It would appear that Elisabeth died as an infant (twice) and the name was then given to the next-born daughter, a common practice at the time. However, the third (1778) record, with different sponsors, and in Schenectady, not Albany, raises the possibility that there was more than one couple in the area with these very common names (Henry & Maria).

Pearson, in reference to the Elisabeth 1778 Scenectady baptism, mentions the married couple Hendrick [Lewis] & Maria Davis. "He was aged 76ys. in 1834." However, such a Henry would have been born in 1758, and too young to marry in 1771, as did the Henry Lewis & Maria Davis in this profile, raising the possibility of another, younger, Henry Lewis and wife Maria Davis living in Schenectady.

5. Hester, born 23 Feb 1785, baptized 20 Mar 1785 at New York City, sponsors John Lewis and Hester Lewis, possibly Henry's brother and mother.

6. Henry, born 7 Sep 1787, baptized 16 Sep 1787 at Claverack, Columbia County, New York, sponsors the parents and Catharina David (Maria's sister, future wife of Asa Foote).

7. Magdalena, born 2 Sep 1789 and baptized 14 Nov at Albany, sponsors not documented.
