Ruth Davis was born about 1674, daughter of John and Hannah (Lynnell) Davis. [1] (p. 296) [2]
Ruth married John Linnel/Lynnell, about 1695/6. [1] John was born in 1671, son of David and Hannah (Shelley) Linnel. (p. 296)[2]
In the will of her father John Davis, dated May 10, 1701, he speaks of his wife as living, also of sons John, Benjamin, Samuel, Dollar, Timothy, and Jabez, of daughters Mercy, Ruth Lynnell, and Mary Hincley ; also of Hannah Jones's five children, son John's four eldest sons, granddaughter Mary Goodspeed, and grandson Joseph Davis. Will proved April 9, 1703. Amount of inventory, £268 12s. 4:d. (p. 33)[1]
John was a prudent industrious and respectable man. He resided a part of his life on his farm in the easterly part of Chequaquet now called Hyannis Port, and a part on the John Davis estate. He was one of the earliest who removed to South Sea, as the south part of the town was then called. (p. 159) [3]
All of the name in Barnstable and Yarmouth are descendants of John, son of David Linnell. (p. 160) [3]
In a codicil dated, July 5, 1748 he says his daughter Bethia is dead. He left bequests to:
daughter Hannah he gave his great chamber and privileges in the house so long as she remained single
son Samuel, the southwest part of his farm or homestead at South Sea;
son John, 19 acres of upland marsh
son Joseph, the remaining or easterly part
son Jabez, all his homestesd farm lands meadows and house wherein he then dwelt. (p. 159) [3]
His wife Ruth owned real estate in her own right. She owned land on the east side of the Hyannis road adjoining Nathaniel Baker's formerly the property of her father. (p. 160) [3]
Jabez born in July, 1711; married first, Sarah Bacon, intention published on November 11, 1736; married second Mrs. Sarah Sturgis, intention May 9, 1751 [4]; married on September 26, 1751. She died Jan 31. 1768 aged 54; He had eight children. (p. 160)[3]
