Biography

The son of Daniel Ingerson Davis (1842-1923), a lake captain who was born in Maine, and Selina Elizabeth Hepworth (1854-1915), Treat was born in Pentwater, Michigan in 1876.[1] His mother was his father's second wife, Daniel having been married first to Selina's sister, Martha Ann Hepworth (1845-1869). Martha's cause of death at age 24 was attributed to "ulcers." Treat's siblings included:[2][3]

  1. Bertha (1873-1873)
  2. Edith Harriet (1874-1874)
  3. Lionel (1875-1875)
  4. Coplin Guy (1878-1902)
  5. John Oliver (1879-1968)
  6. Benjamin Woodbury (1883-1917)
  7. Viola (1887-1887)
  8. Daniel Meade (1890-1944)
  9. Walter Hepworth (1895-1917)

Treat married Viola (Wilder) Davis in Weare, Michigan on November 25, 1915.[4] They made their home in Muskegon Heights, where Treat worked as a carpenter. At the time the 1920 U.S. federal census was conducted, Treat's widowed father was living with the family.[5] Their children included:

  1. John Oliver (1917-1917)
  2. Walter Ellsworth (1918-1999)
  3. Mabel R. (1921-2012)

By 1930, Treat was working as a machinist at an auto factory in Muskegon.[6] By 1940, he had retired.[7] He passed away at the age of 90[8] and is buried at Restlawn Cemetery in Muskegon.[9]
