Mr John Davis, Gentleman of Chenies was the brother of Mr Samuel Davis (bef.1717-1762), Gentleman of Woburn,[1] and a nephew of Robert Herr.

He married Sarah Lambe on 5 Oct 1738 in Little Missenden, Buckingham, England.[2]

He and his brother Samuel Davis both worked for the Duke of Bedford as Stewards. Samuel Davis was Steward of Woburn; John was Steward of Chenies from 1748-1785. As Chenies steward, he was also responsible for the Hitchin leasehold estate and for Chesham.

He died on 23 Apr 1785 in Little Missenden, Buckingham, England.[3][4] His son, William Davis, succeeded him as Steward of Chenies after his death.

John's will identifies many family members including:

  • his late son, John Lambe Davis
  • his surviving son William Davis, father of his grandson William Davis
  • his surviving dau, Sarah, wife of his son in law, Morgan Jones & their son, John Davis Jones
  • his surviving dau, Maria, wife of his son in law, John Munn(?)
