Sarah Louise Davis was part of a group of 14 Black women (Golden 14) who were the first Black Women to serve as Yeomen (F) in the United States Navy. Members of this group performed administrative duties rather than the more usual nursing or mess duties.
Sarah served with the United States Naval Reserve during World War I , as one of the Golden 14[4] She enlisted on October 22, 1918. [5]

The Golden 14 were a group of Black women who were the first Black Women to serve as Yeomen in the United States Navy. [6] This was the first time in the history of the navy of the United States that Black women had been employed in any clerical capacity, [7] They are collectively referred to as the Golden 14. [8] She received the Victory Medal for her service. [9]

Sarah married Pierre McKinley Taylor on December 20, 1922. [10] They lived at 1411 W Street in the Cardozo area of Washington, D.C. Sarah was a government clerk and McKinley was a taxi driver.[11] In 1940 they were in the same house, with Sarah working as an accountant for the Navy Yard and Pierce a laundry salesman.[12]
She died in 1990.
