Biography

Catalynte was born in 1744. and was baptized 27 May 1744 at Stone Arabia, in what was then Tryon County, New York. She is the daughter of James Davis and Maria UNKNOWN (Maria Kil). The sponsors at her baptism were Abraham and Annatje Schermerhoren.

The baptism record calls her Katlienge. This spelling deviates significantly from the norm, with multiple oddities, such as ending with "ge", and is almost certainly a phonetic spelling error of the clerk. Her children's baptism records call her Catalynte.

In Early Families of Herkimer County, page 50, Barker simply called her Catherine, and placed her as a child of James Davis, head of the Fonda branch (of the Davis family), saying that she married, by 1772, the Henry Lewis who was baptized in 1744.
