Biography

Merceir was born 18 April 1899 in Charleston, South Carolina.[1] He was the son of John Porteous DeVeaux Jr. and Harriet Holmes Green.

He married first Hyacinthe S. Seignious on 20 April 1921 at the Citadel Square Baptist Church in Charleston in a ceremony performed by the Rev. C. C. Coleman.[2] Merceir and Hyacinthe divorced on 22 September 1934 in Augusta, Georgia.[3]

He married second Mary Hall circa 1936.[4]

He married third Euclaide Rebecca Appleby on 10 February 1950 on Folkston, Charlton County, Georgia.[5]

Merceir died on 18 June 1969 in Charleston,[6] and he is buried there in Magnolia Cemetery.[7]
